Choroi Quinta Pentatonic flute
MER 55102500
Regular price $174.00 Sale price $155.00The Quinta Pentatonic Flute is a more recently developed pentatonic flute made of pear wood without a tone block. It has a slightly stronger tone than those with a tone block and a very light articulation.
The interval and pentatonic flutes were specially developed for use by children, particularly in groups. Pentatonic flutes delight with their pleasant harmonic sound when played in a group.
The Quinta Flute is light blowing, with very easy articulation and a clear transparent tone. With the specially designed labium and windway, no separate toneblock is needed. All the Choroi flutes are characterized by a warm, light, flexible tone. Compared with traditional instruments, the Choroi flutes possess a tone that sounds more like a voice than an instrument. This unique tone quality leads to a corresponding style of play. A free outbreathing, rather than an active blowing, forms the foundation for the tone. The mouth and lip positions also contribute to the tone formation. The fingers gently touch the specially formed finger holes, which allow half-steps to be achieved naturally by half-covering the holes.
Range: d''-e''-g''-a''-b''-d'''-e'''
Frequency:
Solid pear wood. All flutes are treated exclusively with linseed oil. As regular oiling is vital to the flute, we recommend flute oil for regular upkeep.
Comes with accessories: wooden cleaning swab, cotton flute bag.
Made in Sweden by Choroi.
A Guide to Flutes:
The first flute is the interval flute, with just one hole, which can be introduced to a child of 5 or 6 years old. The focus here is quite simply on blowing into the flute, and what one is doing with their breath and mouth.
The next step is then beginning for children of 6 or 7 years old, with the Pentatonic Quinta flute.
The Diatonic Octa flute can then be introduced for a child starting at around 8 or 9 years of age.
But this not all fixed because the one teacher will take this schedule, and other teacher will start with playing earlier or later. Some teachers skip the Diatonic Octa flute altogether, and go straight from the Pentatonic flute to the Recorder beginning partway through Grade 3 or at the beginning of Grade 4. We recommend the Aura wooden recorder.

The tuning from the 432Hz is lower to the normal level and the tones have more warm quality. The "right" tone is 440 Hz which is used also in the big orchestras and for example playing alongside piano accompaniment. If children are playing together in a group, then 432 Hz is okay. When playing the flute along with other instruments for example piano, the 440 Hz flute will be more in tune with the other instruments.
Please note: we normally sell this flute with German fingering, and 432 Hz, as that is the flute most typically used in Waldorf schools for children.
