Moomin and the Comet comic book

USD $7.49

by Tove Jansson

HOW WILL THE BELOVED RESIDENTS OF MOOMINVALLEY SURVIVE A COMET?

Another classic Moomin story reworked in full color, with a kid-proof but kid-friendly size, price, and format.

It’s getting hotter and hotter in Moominvalley, and all the creatures have taken note of the troubling weather. After a mysterious cloud appears in the sky one day, an exodus begins. The Hattifatteners, the Nibling, Mrs. Fillyjonk (and all her children), and even Mymble pack up to leave the valley. When they realize the mysterious cloud is a comet headed straight for Moominhouse, Moomin, Little My, and Snorkmaiden decide to depart their home too. As the clock ticks down, and the comet nears Moominvalley, the plot thickens. Between a tidal wave and a comet-struck Moomin, the end does seem nigh, but the day may yet be saved.

Tove Jansson’s flawless cartooning is brought to life in a whole new way within these pages. A delight for the whole family!

Praise for Moomin and the Comet

To know the Moomins was to know Tove [Jansson]. She poured her wit, dreams and fears into the characters.

  The Economist

[Tove Jansson's Moomins feature) scratchy, pen-and-ink sketches and [an] atmosphere of beneficence ... [a] mix of disaster and gentle naïveté.

  New York Review of Books

Softcover.  Full-colour.  40 pages.  8.5 x 6".

Published by Enfant, Drawn & Quarterly.

We might recommend for 6 or 7 years and up, but it varies largely.  The interpersonal and social tensions in the themes are played out and resolved in a medium that we find approachable even for young children, and our children took a keen interest already at ~4 years old in the Moomin stories, although we wouldn't normally recommend them so early.  We would paraphrase a little certainly when reading aloud.
