The most skilled stacker doesn't automatically win.  Strategy, a steady hand, and a little bit of luck are all needed to ensure a victory.  

Anyone who thinks strategically, stacks up skilfully and acts lucky can defy the disaster and escape the malice of the other players.  The goal is to get rid of all the sticks.  The sticks are to be stacked atop the 'wobbly' base.  The die is spun like a spinning top, and the number that lands face up is the number of stick the player is to stack during their turn.

Nest Notes: Suggested for ages 7 years and up.  The starting age might depend on the individual, not in ability, but in temperament, as some young children may enjoy the practice and excitement, and some might feel more unduly stressed by the stacking games.  Suggestions to start with fewer sticks to begin with, only take out 1 stick each to start, and then introduce gradually more.

2 board games of hide and seek in the light of a candle for 2-8 players.

First version: The burning tealight moves through the dark forest and tries to find the small dwarves in their hiding places.  If a dwarf is touched by the light, it is frozen and not allowed to move any more. The other dwarves try to release it.  All dwarves try to unite under one tree while the candle tries to freeze the dwarves.  Who will win?  A co-operative game for children starting at 5+ years, with adult supervision because of the candle.

Second version: The light remains stationary in one place.  The dwarves must move through the shadows and jump over the light.  A dwarf which has to stop in the shadow must wait until another player helps him by flashing him a ray of light.  The game ends when all the dwarves have made it home safe and sound.  It may not seem obvious, but learning about the path of light rays and direct and diffuse light is also being taught whilst engaged in play.  Recommended for 7+ years, with adult supervision.

A beautiful version of the classic game of solitaire - a test of skill and a practice to stretch one's patience. For some nice solo time.

Instructions:

At the start of the game, insert 32 pegs into the holes. Only the middle hole (#17 in the paper diagram included) remains free. Now jump with one peg over the other and take the 'jumped over' peg away. (Placing the pegs in the attached container). It may only be jumped in a straight line (up, down or across), and only over one peg; Also, a peg cannot jump over an empty hole.

There are infinitely many ways to get to the goal.  You have to jump the pegs with the end in mind so that only 1 peg remains.  And now have fun!

Nest Notes: For age recommendations, it is going to vary by person, but generally Solitaire is a nice game even for adults.  For children, many could get the concept already at 6 or 7 years old maybe, but we might suggest to wait to begin until 8 years old, for the child to have chance to satisfyingly bring it to a conclusion, even if not getting all the pegs but one removed in the end... It is simply a game to see how many you have remaining at the end, and try and get the lowest number possible.  It need not be only 1 left.  The goal is perhaps best introduced as to see how many pegs left at the end, rather than just try to have 1 peg left. ;)  We've seen this game introduced to children around 9-12 years of age as a golden time for delighting in it, and older children, teens, and adults too then find it absorbing.

RULES:

• You can play the game with any number of people.
• Shuffle the cards and lay them all out, face down.
• Toss a coin or roll a die to decide who goes first. Players then take it in turns to try to match the animal pairs, turning over two cards each time (all animal pairs are listed in this booklet). If a matching pair of animals is selected, the player keeps the cards and goes again. If not, the cards should be returned to their places and play moves on to the next player.
• When all the animals have been matched, the player with the most cards is declared the winner! To make the game faster, you can play it with fewer cards. Or to make a fiendishly difficult version of the game, try to identify all of the animals correctly!

THE STORY: It's that special time of year when Sugar Maple Trees run sweet sap that we collect, then take to the Sugar Shack where the sap is boiled down and made into various sweet products such as sugar crystals, candy and syrup. Ours is a small operation involving such risks as bad weather, while the large Sugaring Operations don't use tree taps and pails, but instead run tubing for less risk. Big or small, that first taste of sweetness is heaven in your mouth.  In this game, we work together to put out the pails, gather the sap, boil it down into syrup and see how many containers of maple syrup we can make before the oh, so short Sugaring Season is done.

Armed with just cameras, binoculars & some other equipment, we leave our camp & hike into the Park to learn about wildlife. We may be surprised what we learn about ourselves as well.

Players are parent Birds trying to save their Baby Birds from Predators such as Hawks and Cats.  The cards provide 6 Places for Nests, 6 Birds, 6 Predators and 6 Kinds of Food.

All the action takes place on the Neighborhood Chart.  Predator Dangers are placed near the Neighborhood.  Places to make Nests are played first, then Nests, then Food for each Nest, which attracts a Predator.

Four different cooperative tile games. Players form as many good Berry Patches as they can, with the help of the friendly Bullfrogs. The basic mathematical skills of adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing all get a workout.

Six tiles have only Berries on them. Six have only Bugs. Eight have both Berries and Bugs. The Bug shown is a Slug, one of the few insects that damage Strawberries. Each of the 12 Bullfrogs can eat one bug.

In the Good Berry Patch Game, players form as many Good Berry Patches as they can that have more Berries than Bugs.

In the Bug-Free Berry Patch Game, each Bug will eat a Berry and only saved Berries count… with a Bonus for each totally Bug-Free Patch formed.

We are archaeologists digging for arti­facts in nearby rural areas. We work together to unearth as many old and new artifacts from different historical periods. When our Collection Bins are full, we head back to the Museum to assess our finds.

We are an International Team of Geologists who have landed a space lab on the Moon and are sending out rovers to visit the Moon terrain in search of anything valuable to bring back to the people of Earth.

We promise to abide by the Outer Space Treaty as formulated by the UN. “I, as a member of the UN Geological Team, promise that the exploration and use of outer space, including the moon and other celestial bodies shall be for the benefit of all countries on Earth”

The three levels of play will challenge adults as well.
