Made from all organic merino wool, we highly recommend these socks for people who get cold feet to wear while sleeping or cozying on the couch. The elastic at the top is a very loose, gentle yet slightly snug fit. They tend to stay up well, and not slouch, yet aren't too constricting making them perfect for wearing to sleep in bed overnight on cold winter nights. For cold or stressed feet, putting on these very soft socks brings warmth and comfort immediately.

We don't recommend them for wearing in shoes or walking around, as there is no polyester or other synthetics woven into the wool, and they are undyed and untreated, the wool will wear holes in short time from the friction, but for sleeping socks, they will last a long time! They don't need to be washed too often in this case, as wool containing lanolin undergoes a natural oxidation process with air that self-cleans a little. Let them air out a bit, and then wash them when they really seem to need it with gentle woolwash, and let them air dry.

Washing and Care:

Air frequently - wash seldom - protect against moths

Wool is self-cleaning: it reacts with oxygen in the air and neutralizes skin excretions. Frequent airing reduces the need to wash your garment. Wash wool preferably by hand in lukewarm water. Use Sonett washing liquid for wool and silk. You can also wash your wool garment with a hand-wash program at 30 °C in a washing machine. Stains disappear with Sonett gall soap. Shape the garment whilst damp. The garment shrinks a little in the first wash. Protect wool against moths and beetles. When not in daily use, store it in a sealed plastic bag. The product bag is good for storage.

These mittens are lightly warming, ideal for cool weather, or for wearing underneath separate outer mitten shells. After awhile we may notice our wool garments have lost some of their naturally water-repellant properties. This is because some of the lanolin, the natural sheep oil that performs this function, has been lost from washing and wearing.

This wool care agent contains wool grease, olive soap, sugar tenside, lecithin, botanical concentrator and natural essential lavender oil. The wool care agent softens woollen garments which have lost their natural oils in use (e.g. frequently washed nappy panties) and protects the wool fibre from premature wearing, allowing wool to better maintain its moisture-absorbing quality and softness.

For lipid replenishing of highly stressed garments made from wool and for woollen nappy pants.

Particularly important for babies’ woollen nappy pants which, due to the natural wool-wax content, collect the dampness from the diaper while still remaining permeable to air. If babies’ woollen nappy pants are washed, they lose their naturally occurring wool fat. Regular application of Wool Care replenishes the wool with the wool wax it needs for proper functioning.

 

Dosage for woollen nappy pants:

Dissolve 1–2 tablespoon of Wool Care in hot water and fill up to approx. 1 litre (34 fl oz US) using cold water. Place the moistened woollen nappy pants into the lukewarm solution, wash through several times and leave to soak for about ½ to 1 hour. Rinse in lukewarm water, press out and leave to dry on a towel.

 

Dosage for stressed woollen clothing, such as jackets, milled jackets, wool-felt hats, jumpers, etc.:

Dissolve ½ teaspoon of Wool Care in hot water and proceed as described above.

Wool Care can also be used in the washing machine. To this end, dissolve ½ teaspoonful of Wool Care in approx. 30–40 ml (1–1.4 fl oz US) of hot water and pour the solution into the fabric softener compartment of the washing machine.

Origin and properties of the ingredients

Wool wax is obtained from freshly shorn sheep’s wool that underwent a special process to remove any pesticide and herbicide residues. In order to be well dispersed in the water and to adhere to the fibres, the wool wax must be emulsified into fine droplets using olive-oil soap and sugar surfactant. Sugar, coconut oil and palm oil are the raw materials used to manufacture sugar surfactant. Olive soap results from the chemical reaction between olive oil and lye (alkaline solution). Olive oil is the best oil raw material for making mild lipid-replenishing plant-based soap. Its well-balanced composition of fatty acids, its healing balancing effect on the cardiovascular system, and the remarkable growth of the olive tree in a 7-year cycle are evidence of the special proximity and relationship of this oil to humans. Cetyl alcohol–obtained from palm oil – and the plant-based thickening agent enhance the emulsifying effect of sugar surfactant and olive oil soap.

Its principal active ingredients, i.e. the bile acids cholic and taurocholic acids, are not only capable of finely dispersing grease and fat-like substances but also of dissolving dyestuffs and forming compounds with them. Soap manufactured from rapeseed / sunflower oil and olive oil with lye (alkaline solution), swells and dissolves the dirt and supports the stain-removing performance property of the bovine gall. Sugar surfactant is obtained from pure plant-based raw materials–sugar, starch and coconut oil– and their chemical reaction with acids. Citric terpene derived from orange peels intensifies even more the fat-dissolving property of Sonett Gall Soap.

The gall soap contains palm oil and coconut butter, bovine gall and chlorophyll. Excellent, efficient stain remover, suitable for removing grease, blood, berry, fruit, wine, dye, ink and chlorophyll stains.

Sonett gall soap is particularly suited for woollens and silks. It can also be used for cotton however, take care to rinse cotton garments thoroughly before washing, if they are going to be put in the dryer afterwards.

Fill Sonett Laundry Rinse into the softener compartment; revivifies the brightness of delicate colours, helps to rinse out detergent residue more thoroughly, and smoothes fibres.

 

Manual washing:

Add 15–30 ml (0.5–1 fl oz US) per approx. 5 litres (1.3 gal US) of water to the running water, and then place the garments into it. Move very gently only. Rinsing water and wash water should be of similar temperature in order to prevent temperature shock.

Origin and properties of the ingredients

Olive soap: It is from century-old olive groves of Mediterranean countries such as Italy, Spain and Greece that the fruit originates. It is used to obtain the olive oil – in certified organically grown quality – by mechanical processes such as pressing and centrifugation. When saponified with potassium hydroxide, it is the main constituent of Sonett’s Olive Laundry Liquid for Wool and Silk. Olive oil is the best oil raw material for making mild soap and restoring the deficient protective hydrolipidic film. Its well-balanced composition of fatty acids, its healing balancing effect on the cardiovascular system, and the remarkable growth of the olive tree in a 7-year cycle, demonstrate the special proximity and relationship of this oil to humans.

Rapeseed oil / sunflower oil soap: Vegetable oil, saponified with potassium hydroxide, serves to intensify the washing performance. In addition to flax and sunflower, rapeseed is one of the few oil-yielding plants which are cultivated for oil production in our temperate central European climate, and are also certified organically grown.

Ethanol: It is derived from fermentation of starch-containing plants such as maize and potatoes. Ethanol helps keeping the soap liquid, while at the same time improving the fat-dissolving property of the detergent.

Sugar surfactant: Sugar, starch and coconut oil are the raw materials for the sugar surfactant used. The proportion of sugar surfactant compared to the soap content of the detergent is such, that it serves for the calcium soap forming in case of hard water, to be kept finely dispersed and to prevent it from being deposited on the laundry.

At temperatures below 10 °C (50 °F), the product changes becoming slightly more solid and cloudy; a phase which will pass, however, once the product is exposed to warmth and by shaking it lightly, if necessary.

Biodegradability:

Soap made from vegetable oils has one outstanding feature, compared to all the other active washing substances, namely that, right after its use, it reacts chemically with the limescale always present in waste water forming calcium soap, thus neutralising its surfactant effect on aquatic organisms (primary degradation). The calcium soap is then, by microorganisms, 100% degraded into carbon dioxide and water (secondary degradation). Ethanol is infinitely miscible with water and reintegrates into the natural cycle within a few hours. Despite the fact that during the manufacturing of sugar surfactants, constituents are being extracted from the plant-based raw materials, i.e. starch, sugar, and fat, they remain completely intact in their natural molecular structure. For this reason it is relatively easy for the microorganisms to 100% decompose these surfactants. Soap and sugar surfactant are classified as being readily biodegradable according to OECD guidelines.

For easy "re-moisturizing" of wool diaper pants and other items made of virgin wool.  Once dissolved in a water bath, the Disana lanolin treatment takes effect particularly quickly.  So the natural wool wax reaches every single fiber and envelops them.  Lanolin is an important ingredient, the "self-cleaning power" of wool articles and helps keep them clean and fresh just by airing them out.

Application: Shake well before use!

Refatting of woolen diaper pants:
Wool diaper pants with Disana wool shampoo wash instructions.
2 tablespoons of disana lanolin care treatment in 1 litre of lukewarm water (25°C).
Put the woolen diaper pants in the lanolin bath for just a short time and push them through slightly soaked. After removing excess water, squeeze out the lanolin bath slightly.
Not in the sun, not on the heater and not in the dryer on tumble dry even.  Just laid out flat to dry in well-ventilated space.

Only wash new woolen diaper pants, if you like, and do not treat with lanolin care treatment initially, as sufficient natural lanolin is contained in the wool of new diaper pants.  Therefore, an initial lanolin treatment is not necessary for new pants.  Over time, from washing and absorbing moisture from pee and any other spills, the wool can lose some of its moisture-absorbing properties as it loses some lanolin content.  Therefore, re-lanolinizing is for such cases.

Re-lanolinizing high-quality woolen clothing:
Dissolve 1 teaspoon Disana lanolin care treatment in 1 litre of water.  Then as with wool diaper pants proceedings.   Alternatively, in this same mixing ratio of water to lanolin, put in a spray bottle, and spray on the wool clothing.

The Disana outdoor jacket now also for the really big boys.  A super practical, super chic men's jacket made entirely of soft Disana boiled wool.  With many useful extras, such as the particularly large hood and a cotton lining in the body part.  A closable breast pocket keeps your wallet or mobile phone in place.  A fine elastic band in the cuffs ensures that your arms don't get cold either.  The body and arms of this jacket are also pre-formed for extra comfort.

The highlight of our men's jacket is and remains the soft yet robust boiled wool.  Only he makes the jacket a very special wearing experience.
