These rainbows are ones that we have set aside from our regular stock because they have something distinguishing them as a second quality which we offer here for a discount.
We have made four categories of seconds: aesthetic, dings or dents, asymmetry (please note as they are cut by hand, none of them normally will be perfectly symmetrical in any case), or uneven thickness of arches. Please note that all the rainbows are handmade and unique - as unique as the tree that they came from. Wood grain variation, knots in the wood, slight differences in the way that the wood is cut or shaped, or the density of the word, is all normal and to be expected. The ones that you would buy that *are not* ’seconds’ will not be ‘perfect’ in every which way, as nature is not normal as such. Nature reminds us of this fact of life and all its diversity.
We understand from over ten years of selling and playing with the Grimm’s large rainbows, from playing with stacking rainbow challenges and building our own ball runs with Grimm’s elements, or from bringing the Grimm’s semi-circles and building boards into the mix, etc., that sometimes the way a rainbow is cut, or shaped gives it specific characteristics in play. These traits can all have their own appeal. For example, some people express liking their arches to be light and a little rough to the touch so they work well and grip well for stacking. Or, also, eg, as the rainbow is cut from the same piece of wood, but not 100% perfectly symmetrical, when the pieces are flipped over, the fit might not be as perfect as when it was cut - some people express in this instance that it can be a self-correcting exercise for a child stacking up the arches to be able to work through flipping the pieces around to fit as from the original cut. Furthermore, prominent wood grain variations that extend through many of the arches on one side of the rainbow can help guide us to which way the pieces should face when one would like to fit the arches back together.
This all said, we also know that there is an element of trust when buying online, and we strive in all areas of our business to meet expectations, and to consider ourselves as the customer. For this reason, time to time, we find some large rainbows, that we are on the fence with, as to whether someone would be okay to receive it. We know from having had a storefront for years that one customer truly might not mind certain things, but another might, and that of course, is reasonable. We all have different tastes and sometimes a little different expectations. For our customers who are after a deal and don’t mind such more outlying variations, it seems like a good solution to offer these here at a small discount. The trees have been farmed and forested, the hands have made the rainbows already.. We’d like to see these rainbows go to homes where they’ll get some good play.

The large Rainbow is really versatile and ideal already for small children! Toddlers stack, sort and build and as the children get older they might use it as a cradle for dolls, as fence for animals, like a tunnel or bridge for vehicles, as house for dwarfs and dollhouse dolls, build amazing sculptures... this rainbow will always be integrated in playing with a lot of fantasy.
