I'm really proud of my powerful white tusks, and my powerful trumpet call can be heard from far away. Everyone in the large elephant family respects my strength. They feel safe and protected by me.
Ostheimer's elephant group has undergone several transformations. Under Margarete Ostheimer, it was designed much simpler and of thinner wood. In the late 1990s, Ostheimer's designer Stephan Zech created a mightier, but, nevertheless, very playful elephant family made of thicker wood. The bull, with its tusks and raised trunk, enjoyed great popularity and was, of course, very decorative.
But sometimes there were tears because, due to the delicate design, tusks or trunks broke off in the heat of play. So Stephan Zech returned to the elephant theme and designed another, more robust group that now meets both Ostheimer's design standards and playability. And recently – due to intense demand – the trumpeting bull elephant has also been re-introduced to the range, even though it is a bit more prone to breakage.
16 cm long x 4 cm wide x 21 cm high.
Made in Germany.
Wood contains tannins that have a natural antibacterial effect.
However, if cleaning is necessary, for example if it is heavily soiled, then Ostheimer recommends:
Use lukewarm water, possibly with a little diluted vinegar or a splash of ecological washing-up liquid (liquid dish detergent).
Gently rub the surfaces with a soft, clean cloth or sponge.
Lightly sand natural wood figures (not painted figures) in heavily soiled areas with 120 grit sandpaper.
After cleaning, rub the toy with a soft cotton cloth and let it air dry.
Nest Notes: Ostheimer items are known for being very smoothly sanded; however, should you ever encounter a rough spot or edge, you can use the 'brown paper bag trick', where you rub a brown paper bag just a little bit vigorously, and it acts as a very, very fine sandpaper that generally does not affect the colour.
