The Ostheimer badger with head straight is one of 3 badgers currently made by Ostheimer, which makes it possible to have a badger 'family'. If one were to purchase only one badger however, the small 'baby' badger would be fine for a forest creatures collection if one were partial to the smaller figures, and a little cost-savings for the smaller figures; however, in real life badgers in Europe can be quite large, so the adult size badger would be more representative; the adult North American badger is a little smaller than the European badger (if such thoughts entered one's head as a matter of import).
The badger head down looks like it is snuffling in the ground more, a typical scene for this burrowing insect and grub-eating creature. (See book: 'When Findus was Little and Disappeared'). The badger with head up looks more as though it ready for conversation with another animal.
Please note that the badger head down is part of the Ostheimer forest set with diorama, in case one were interested to purchase that set.
Solid maple.
10.5 cm long x 2.5 cm wide x 4 cm high.
Handmade in Germany.
Wood contains tannins that have a natural antibacterial effect.
However, if cleaning is necessary, for example if it is heavily soiled, then Ostheimer recommends:
Use lukewarm water, possibly with a little diluted vinegar or a splash of ecological washing-up liquid (liquid dish detergent).
Gently rub the surfaces with a soft, clean cloth or sponge.
Lightly sand natural wood figures (not painted figures) in heavily soiled areas with 120 grit sandpaper.
After cleaning, rub the toy with a soft cotton cloth and let it air dry.
Nest Notes: Ostheimer items are known for being very smoothly sanded; however, should you ever encounter a rough spot or edge, you can use the 'brown paper bag trick', where you rub a brown paper bag just a little bit vigorously, and it acts as a very, very fine sandpaper that generally does not affect the colour.
