The Elephant Animal Cushion from Senger is ideal as a pillow for both summer and winter. The elephant is covered on one side with a smooth, cool cotton and on the other with fluffy plush. You could, but you might see more 'clumping' of the inner material afterwards, and you would then want to try and knead the filling around with your hands to redistribute it.
However, more of an issue, no matter how you are washing it, is that you need to ensure that the inner material dries out quickly and completely, so that there isn't any chance with mold growing if it stays wet for a prolonged period of time. Having it in very warm and dry conditions to dry out entirely after getting wet will help with this.
