About the Maker - Holztiger

Background

For many years, the HOLZTIGER brand has been synonymous with the highest quality.

In 1981, Gerhard Gollnest and Fritz-Rüdiger Kiesel founded what is now the largest toy company in northern Germany. They are now supported in the management by Thorsten Koss and Markus Lüneburg. More than 450 goki employees worldwide are busy making childhood and children's rooms more colourful. More than 2,000 different products form one of the most diverse ranges in the toy industry. At the heart of our range are the goki, HEIMESS and HOLZTIGER brands.

Holztiger figures are currently manufactured in Romania.

Production

All the figures are made from local maple and beech wood. Each figure is sanded by hand and painted with non-toxic water-based paints, ensuring that the fine natural structure of the wood is visibly preserved and giving the toys their unmistakable character.

Every animal, every figure is as unique as the tree it came from. Slight differences in size and colour are part of the essence of HOLZTIGER figures and give them their timeless value.

For us, absolute safety has the highest priority, as children approach new things without preconceptions and are unable to assess possible risks. Before a toy leaves our warehouse, it is therefore subjected to intensive testing that goes beyond the requirements of legal regulations.

For this purpose, we have our own test laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art technology. Chemical studies are carried out by independent, accredited institutes. With our 40 years of experience in manufacturing toys, our strong sense of responsibility for children's safety and our highly developed quality management, we ensure that our toys are safe.

Sustainability

"Whoever takes something from nature must also give something back to it." For this reason, the topic of sustainability has long been part of Holztiger's company philosophy.

For almost 20 years, we have been contributing to reforesting Germany's forests and making them more climate-stable with our forest planting campaigns. In the process, vulnerable monocultures are transformed into mixed forests so that they can withstand the demands of climate change.

At Goki, we stand for responsible toys: we use wood from sustainable, European forestry. Beech, maple or spruce trees stand in the forest for more than 80 years before they are felled in the spirit of sustainable forestry. A whole human life must pass, only then do we want to and are we allowed to use the woods. It is our obligation and responsibility to produce the best possible wooden toys from them. It is out of this intention that we have persistently developed over the past 40 years.

Sustainability also plays a major role in the production of our wooden toys. Our European factories are either equipped with photovoltaic systems or purchase green electricity. Across Europe, we already produce more energy than we use.

Honoured with the German Sustainability Award
An independent jury of experts honoured our commitment with the German Sustainability Award, the most important award of its kind in Europe. Goki was awarded the 16th German Sustainability Award as a pioneer of transformation in the toy and leisure products industry. Since 2008, Europe's largest award for ecological and social commitment has shown what Germany's pioneers of sustainability have to offer.

Social Responsibility

We are also socially committed worldwide. For example, schools are being built in developing countries such as Mali, Peru and Uganda. There, children who previously had to work in mines, among other places, are given the chance to receive an education. Education is the way out of poverty and child labour. In cooperation with the children's charities "terre des hommes" and "Kinder in Afrika", ten schools have been built so far. Gollnest & Kiesel is currently building its eleventh school together with Arise e.V. in Ghana.
