The Ostheimer small raccoon was introduced to the Ostheimer animal world in 2013, along with the larger size sitting and running raccoon. The small raccoon of course is like the baby of the family, and the sitting and running are the fully grown raccoons.
One of the lovely things about the wooden figures from Ostheimer is the family of figures that one can play with. Many children delight to have the parent and child figures of the same family. It can be nice to add to the figures you have like this first rather than getting a different animal.
However, if one were to have only one raccoon in their collection, we sometimes recommend the small or youth figures of the animals as a cost savings, but in this instance, we do find that the larger raccoon running is a good size for a raccoon compared to many of the other animal figures you might have in your collection. The small racoon could work as your 'only' raccoon, but the racoon running, or the racoon sitting might be a better choice size-wise.
Wood contains tannins that have a natural antibacterial effect.
However, if cleaning is necessary, for example if it is heavily soiled, then Ostheimer recommends:
Use lukewarm water, possibly with a little diluted vinegar or a splash of ecological washing-up liquid (liquid dish detergent).
Gently rub the surfaces with a soft, clean cloth or sponge.
Lightly sand natural wood figures (not painted figures) in heavily soiled areas with 120 grit sandpaper.
After cleaning, rub the toy with a soft cotton cloth and let it air dry.
Nest Notes: Ostheimer items are known for being very smoothly sanded; however, should you ever encounter a rough spot or edge, you can use the 'brown paper bag trick', where you rub a brown paper bag just a little bit vigorously, and it acts as a very, very fine sandpaper that generally does not affect the colour.
